I have well-established cardinal plant in a pot in my garden , should I fence it over the winter months

    Please can I clarify which plant you are asking about.
    Cordyline or Lobelia cardinalis?
    Also where you live ...approximately...as that will reflect the answers you get.

    In that case, no, shouldn't be necessary unless it's tiny and vulnerable, but it's wet cold that does for them here. Up against a house wall should be fine.
