Where to visit between Reading & Glasgow

  • Good point Nick, two adults who like walkies in nature :)
  • Not a garden, as such, but how about Larch Cottage Nursery near Penrith? Not been myself but I hear it's worth a visit.
  • The new RHS garden at Bridgewater is not far from the M6, although if you are travelling this month you will have to book in advance, and only late time slots are still available. In September no booking is required.
  • Bridgewater looks amazing! Saved for next time.
FYI A Google Maps search for "National Trust Garden" is turning up some great results.

Another vote for Larch Cottage Nursery ..... one of my favourite places.
Make sure you have some room in your boot as you won't come away without buying something.

You'll get a good lunch there too .... probably sensible to book.

  • Hello from Larch Cottage! Thanks, both, for the recommendation. It's such a pleasant surprise! There's so much to see. I'll share more pics on the Google maps location  <3

    Hi @claire.okeeffe,

    Glad you've decided to visit.

I garden in the Scottish Borders and have family in Merseyside .... so it's our stopping off point for coffee / lunch when we go down to visit.

One of the boundaries in my garden is a river.
When I win the lottery, I'm going to buy that alligator .... I think he'd look fantastic climbing out of the riverbank.

    Have a good trip.

Ooh - was just about to second (third?) Larch Cottage and I see you're there! Fabulous fun and interesting place isn't it. Excellent lunches too.

I'm hoping to revisit in about 3 weeks time😎
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
  • Yeah it was so nice. My partner is allergic to garden centres and even he enjoyed this fascinating alternative nursery. I wish we lived closer so I could get some merch :D It seems to have everything! There were kids having a great time, pointing out the fish and chasing the chickens.
