Training a Laburnum against a wall.

Has anyone done this?
I know they have been grown as arches, but i can't seem to find any information on growing against a wall. My thought was to grow along a single wire about 2.5m high to the left and right of the tree.
Any thoughts?

I’ve never been able to grow one but my sister has a beauty ,took about 10 years but .The main thing seems to be to not plant it too near the wall ,hers is planted about afoot and a half from the house wall it goes left and right of the main stem , but unfortunately now the roots have grown up through the driveway , so be careful where you put it !

That's good to hear that someone else has done it. Mine is planted about 2 feet away so should be ok. Do you know if she pruned away everything below the wire, or allowed some growth lower down? What time of year does she tie things in?

Not sure ,I think she just ties in as and when .From what I remember she just planted it and left it to do it’s own thing ,she’s one of these really annoying people who just plants and the thing just grows! I don’t have her knack I’m afraid Not much help to you but I’d say use your gardening knowledge that you have ,if it looks ok leave it alone, if it’s growing where you don’t want it ,cut it off ……..it seems to work for her she says

    Ok, thanks.
There is plenty of growth to tie in up top. I'm just worried that it will look terrible if i prune off everything below 8ft or so to leave a bare trunk. Once it's off, there is no going back!
    It's a pity i can't find any pics online.
