Shasta daisy flowers have little or no petals

I bought one a few weeks ago and have it in a container on the patio in full sun.  Really healthy foliage, no signs of pests or disease ut the buds opening have little or no petals at all...any idea what wrong with it?

As it's damage to the petals, I suspect it might have been attacked by earwigs.

Something is eating off the petals.  I have a few insects who have eaten off every petal on my African daisies.  I don't see them on the plant, only the evidence of their meal.  Maybe a grasshopper or caterpillar, I have found both on the plant at one point or another.
