Allium bulbs in pots all the time?

GrannybeeGrannybee Posts: 312
Can I leave alliums in pots until next year or should they be taken out, stored and replanted in October?  I left some acidanthera bulbs in over winter but they have gone mushy. I don't want to lose the alliums as well. Thanks.

I've some in pots for a couple of years before planting and they were fine. Keep them on the dry side over the winter months ,even bone dry

Thanks Hosta - just the thing! Use the pots as a base for a plank of wood to put more pots on....

Acidanthera don't like being frozen and that happens easily in pots.  No bulb does so make sure your pots are protected.   Even here I take all my pots -except a few hostas - into the polytunnel for winter.  I check for weeds and give them a light watering and then leave them be till spring.  I only water pots which have life above soil level  - fuchsias, citrus, frost tender shrubs.
