Tall plant suggestions for pot

Hi, I’d love your suggestions for a tall plant for a pot in a sunny border please?  I’ve moved my weeping cherry out from between the cordyline.  It had grown massively and needed some space.  I’ve now opened up a space for a tall showy plant to look spectacular here.  I’m not restricted as this is a wonderfully sunny spot and everything thrives here.  It’s also a key focal point so I want to get it right.  Thanks x

Have you considered a grass ? That would give you Autumn and Winter interest  :)

Do you want something permanent, or a pot where you can switch planting for different seasons? It can be quite difficult to find something that will be happy long term in a pot in a very sunny site. A lot more work to keep them happy than if they're in the ground.

Lilies will certainly work for summer, especially if you have a couple of different varieties blooming at slightly different times, and put them in plastic pots which will then fit inside the 'nice' one. You can then do the same with bulbs for spring and something evergreen, or with autumn/winter interest - Euonymous alatus for example.  Some of the 'daisy' plants will also work - Heleniums etc, and they'd work for later summer into autumn.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Calamagrostis Karl Foerster is the tallest thing we have in pots.  We also have columns of Ivy Golden Heart, which are trained up Obelisks, a nice evergreen option.
