Snapped Laurel Branches

After the heat and rain of late my laurel plants have really shot up with some large branches. Noted branches being snapped; could this be birds etc landing on and or more spurious hedge trimming from passers by?

    Do the branches overhang the pavement?

    Could be birds. If the branches get very long and whippy while they're still soft  and green, a strong gust of wind can snap them too. In any case you probably need to prune them a bit so that your plant thickens out

    Have a lot of wood pigeons and squirrels as near woods - thinking of getting a wildlife camera before start pointing fingers.
