Mystery tree/hedging plant?

My husband stuck a few branches of this in the ground to see what it would do?? It’s very happy and growing fast but what is it please??!!

Salix caprea ... Goat Willow ... usually regarded as a weed tree in gardens ... it spreads all over the place with white fluffy seeds that drift in the air.   It will grow fast, it grows into a pretty big tree ... good for wildlife and if you've got several acres of land that's fine ... not really suitable for most gardens.
