Can anyone identify this hedge?

I really like this darker green hedge here and I think its an evergreen.  Is it a portugese laurel or a griselinia? Or something else?

Thanks I always thought Cherry Laurels were more lighter green with larger glossy leaves which I was not keen on, but this looks darker green and smaller leaves.  exactly what I am looking for. (Evergreen)

I’d agree it is cherry laurel. If you want smaller, dark green leaves, and a possibly denser hedge, check out the Portuguese laurel. It sounds more like what you are looking for?

There are varieties of cherry laurel like 'Otto Luyken' and 'Zabeliana' which have darker, more pointed leaves and are less vigorous.  However, that photo does look like standard cherry laurel to me... it's difficult to see the scale, but I suspect from comparison with the little hedge on the right, it's actually a lot bigger than first appears, with large glossy leaves which maybe look different because of the quality of the picture.  

If this is near where you live, you could go and have a drive past & check.

Thanks so much, that 'Otto Luyken' looks more like it with the darker smaller leaves and similar floral patterns.

Happy to help.  The only problem with Otto is that it's expensive for hedging, and only grows to 1.5m tall, which may not be big enough...
