Brussels Sprouts

For those considering Brussels Sprouts, my experience in Switzerland.
1. After planting seedlings, slugs laid a serious attack on the leaves  but I managed to win using serious defense with slug bait.
2. Sickly plants recovered nicely with sprouts arriving in the autumn and growing throughout the winter under the snow and into spring.
3. In the spring I resisted yanking the plants and was rewarded with terrific yellow blossoms with lovely scent.
4. For at least 3 weeks bees swarmed daily.
I am amazed to have found a vegetable that grows in the snow an then is heaven for the bees.

Have you saved yourself some free seeds too?
  • Hadn't thought of that so bought a package this year. Will do next time. Different sources disagree on whether there will be a second crop on same plants?
  • Forgot to add that when the stands went to seed that the sparrows feasted on the seeds! A veritable Garden of Eatin for the slugs, us, bees, and then birds.
