Little orange jumping flies with wings bit me😖

Mentioned this on my Bay tree sucker thread but I'm  now more interested  in what attacked me.  Itchy for a while but wore off fairly  soon
All l can find on Google  is chiggers. Do they lurk there waiting to attack a mammal? Are they at all connected with the leaf curling Bay tree thing.

It may have been a froghopper jumping off you.
They do give a little kick when they launch

I'll check them out. I'd like to know the name of my new enemy @Pete.8
Edit: no. Nothing like that . They were definitely flies about the size of drosophila. They might have had little black spots too. The swelling went down after a couple of hours .
They were insinuating themselves into the slightly open leaf buds. I squashed a few but they fought back😒

Could your assailant have been a pirate bug?

That's interesting. The modus operandi fits. Apart from biting me it sounds like it eats other bugs. A good guy with bad habits, perhaps. Thank you @Ladybird4. I'll let them go about their business and stay away from the bay tree for a while😊
