Powdery mildew?

Does this look like powdery mildew and does it indicate that these Aster don't like the conditions in the planter that I dumped them in at the end of 2020?

    I think you are right Biglad. It does look like powdery mildew. There is a lot of information here -which you may already have researched:

    Many asters are really prone to it, like Michaelmas daisies, which I have never managed to grow without it appearing, so gave up after a few years.

    Thanks @Ladybird4. I hadn't read that source but a lot of that information tallies with elsewhere and also with what is going on in the PM planter!

    I'm torn between moving them to a spot elsewhere in the garden and just binning them and moving on @BobTheGardener. They cost the princely sum of 25p each when I rescued them from the GC last October. This is no way to reward me for saving them :o
