Strictly Come Dancing 2021

I was going to look for last year's thread, then thought I might as well start one for this year.

Anton du Beke is going to replace Bruno Tonioli this year. I'm quite pleased - I'm not an Anton fan at all but I thought he was rather good when he stepped in last year.

I'm pleased.  He certainly knows a lot more about ballroom dancing than Bruno who has always been more about the show element than technique.  Anton can do both tho he won't, I suspect, entertain us by falling off his chair in a fit of excessive gesticulation.

That will indeed be a relief! I used to like Bruno but he's just got too silly.

Another one who was pleased to hear about Anton, although l expect the other pros are now wondering who is going to get the more "challenging" celebrity.

Anton didn't always get the duffers.  He got to the finals the first year and has come close with other partners.    Some of the lady professionals have had some horrors too - Russell Grant, Dave Myers, Tim Wannacot, Quentin Wilson, John Sargeant..............

I'm glad about Anton too. I thought he was very good when he was a replacement judge and he certainly has the experience.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • I think Anton on the judging panel balances it better. Bruno, Shirley and Motsi (as I understand it) are Latin experts, there hasn't been a ballroom expert since Len left. Really looking forward to seeing who the new pros are going to be, wouldn't be surprised to see Graziano's fiancée come on board. It's not going to be long now until the speculation starts about who this year's celebs are going to be 😁

I think its brilliant that Anton is going to be a judge - he is a natural successor to Len Goodman.

Anton always gives value for money whether he's dancing or judging he never takes himself too seriously and has a smile on his face, unlike some of the professional dancers that have been on the show in the past and for that matter some of the contestants, I remember one lady contestant apparently a comedian, after she got a bad score whining to the judges that they were upsetting her children, and say no more about Will Young. It must be hard to stand there getting criticised after you have spent all week training but they are show business/sports/political types and they are getting paid well for doing it after all.
  • @barry island Will Young was suffering from anxiety and regretted agreeing to take part to the point where he considered breaking his legs so he couldn't dance. As far as getting paid was concerned, because he dropped out, he didn't get paid a penny.
  • I think anton will be good and is a natural progression from len. I will miss Bruno for his falling off the chair but I think he was going a bit over the top.and anton really really wanted the job.keeeeep dancing!!!
