Has 2021 been a bumper year for flowers on all trees and shrubs and does it signify anything?

right from the first blossom on early flowering cherry trees to Wiegelia, Philadelphus, Deutzia and Cotoneaster I think it is a significant year for flowers. Not just in my own garden, but in my clients gardens and everywhere. Does anyone Feel the same, and does it mean anything, I.e. extreme weather.  Or just good pruning on my part 😉

Plenty of blossom on spring and early summer flowering trees and shrubs is usually the result of a warm and sunny summer with sufficient rain the year before,  so there was lots  of new growth and it was able to ‘ripen’  well in the sunshine to produce plenty of flowers the following year.

It is of course a big help if you pruned correctly and didn’t remove the potentially flower-bearing growth  😉

Interesting: down here we had severe drought last summer but most of my flowering shrubs have done alright. However, my early perennials have been REALLY good. My own, very dodgy theory, is that they have responded to a later Spring which was the pattern until only a matter of years ago and is more 'natural' for them. I am prepared for mockery of this notion!

Many, many more roses than usual. I blame it on the rain😊

Not on my apple tree - very poor showing this year - not helped by the unseasonally warm snap followed by very harsh frosts
