Oversummering pansies

PianoplayerPianoplayer Posts: 624
Hi - another stupid question from me.

I have some great pansies in a pot - they have performed really well, and I love the colour. However, they have gone rather leggy now (although still producing lots of flowers). What should I do?

  1. give them a major hair-cut and keep them going
  2. take cuttings
  3. both?

I lack confidence in my gardening skills, so tend to throw things out and buy new, but I really shouldn't! I'd love to keep these going for autumn/winter.

I just give them a hair cut, then in September sow some more seeds ready for next year.

This summer I've given my pot of pansies a haircut twice.  I've never done it before, but it's worked great.  Within a week or two it's got blooms popping up all around.  I cut them back to about three inches tall.

@Lyn @Blue Onion thanks, both. I'll give it a go.
