Olive bush

Mt 3 metre olive bush which I grew from a pot and transfered to the garden 4 years ago was cut down to 1 metre by my gardener. It looks dead. It was a deep healthy green with hundreds if olives. Will this ever revive? Is there anything I can do to save it?

    You must have been gutted.
I'd guess it probably will re-sprout but will take a few years to re-grow to its former glory.
I have one on the patio and every now and then I chop a couple of feet off to stop it hitting the awning when it's out. Within a few weeks there are lots of new shoots appearing.
I've found seaweed extract once a month during the growing season to be a really good fertilizer for them.
    Time for a new gardener?

  • Thanks your response. I really love this plant. I bought 2 more, just in case, but I am so proud to have nurtured this tiny plant into a real beauty. I have fired my gardener. Regards. Michael

I'm almost surprised that's all that was fired!   Anyone who did that to my plants would have to run very fast, and duck at the same time.  Grrrrr!

  • I showed him exactly where to cut it, about a foot from the top, so I could shape it as I wanted it. I didn't see the damage until he had left.
