Could someone please  identify this plant for me? It was sold as a Hellebore as a seedling but it has gone crazy at the back of my garden and is now around 3ft tall and growing.

    Eeeck!
That looks horribly like Impatiens glandulifera... common name Himalayan balsam.
Flowers scented, beautiful but seeds pods explode scattering seeds....a complete invasive thug...ruining many British river banks. Killing native wild flowers.

Thank you for this! I had a nasty feeling but wanted reassurance. Out they come.

I came across this plant in the highlands of Scotland and thought it was lovely. I had no idea it was such a thug!

It’s causing devastation along the banks of some of our lowland waterways, leading to bad flooding problems.

It causes huge problems up here @gondor, but it's everywhere unfortunately  :/
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Up here teams are going along the river banks hand weeding it out.
The only good thing about it is it pulls out easily.
The main thing is to try and stop those explosive popping seed pods.

In Wales it started to spread from next to the river banks into the farm fields and road side verges.

It is a mega invasive pest/menace/nuisance.
Completely smothering, killing all our native wild flowers.
