Pond larvae ID

Anybody able to help ID this fella which was wriggling about on the surface today. Have seen a few smaller ones recently but this one was so big when it was stretched out I actually thought it was a newt

Odontomyia ornata
(Ornate Brigadier)? Or maybe Genus
Stratiomys?
Evidently they are larger.

think that soldier fly is the one, Id say was around 50-60mm when outstretched
