    Do you have any pics of how your soaker hoses look? Do you over with something - mulch?

    @Fire I can take some later, but it's a regular cheap no name hose in a fabric sleeve. Got it in a garden center.  They're made more or less the same I think (unless they're made of latex), the differences usually not in a hose itself but the water pressure people put through them.
    And yep! we cover ours with mulch.

    I've been plotting to put in irrigations systems for years, but tbh, reviews on the forum have put me off. My situation is a mix of raised beds, borders and pots, so, although it's not a big garden, it's not straight forward, like a polytunnel etc would be.

    This year I am at home through the summer, but as I usually travel, an automatic watering system would be great. I am hestitant to buy yet more plastic gear, esp if I'm just trailing a solution. I continue to ponder...
