Quite a few here this year which is encouraging after last year's dearth of butterflies and moths but they never sit still long enough for me to identify them - big black jobs, medium and small brown jobs, some creamy, speckled jobs, little blue ones and good old cabbage white.   Later on there should be some bright yellow ones and tiger and cinnabar moths.

I have not seen many, but I never do in my garden. A few holly blues and a few large whites - that's it. A wide variety of moths, though. And loads of ladybirds, which is joyful. They both seem to be doing well. Though, this year I am spotting all sorts of things I have never seen before and I suspect I am
    a) paying more attention
    b) being educated by the forum to know what it is I'm seeing

A fair old smattering of peacocks and whites, a few brimstones and small blues a few weeks ago. Feels a bit late but not drastically different to what Id expect for now given the weather

gatekeeper, speckled wood, comma, peacock, orange tip, large white, holly blues, and a cinnabar moth for good measure.  There are a load of largish moths showing up on the trailcam, but no idea what they are without doing another moth light trap. Looking at the sticky traps, I have no doubt we have plum and codling moths too.

Little blue ones here (SW UK ) plus a couple of Cabbage whites and 1 brave Meadow Brown.
No sign yet of Tortoisshel or Peacock.
Despite the Valerian flowering profusely no sign yet either of Hawk Moth - bit early maybe given the weather recently. They were about at this time last year.

I didn't know they went for valerian . That must be why I saw one last year.
I expect to see the gatekeepers when the marjoram flowers but it's nowhere near yet.

  • Saw what looked like a painted lady butterfly yesterday and have had a few cabbage white and some I did not get to identify over the last few weeks but it would be a bit early for getting them in big numbers here going by what happened in previous years.
