Do you think this might be a self seeded silver birch?

    Yes. I get loads of silver birch seedlings from the big tree across the road. Most of them I get out at the seedling stage, but now and then one gets away and looks like yours.
    Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

    I've already got one silver birch seeded itself from a big brother in the corner of the garden. If this is another one, then this will have come from my second garden silver birth in the opposite corner of the garden. Exciting!!!
