Please help! Honeysuckle disease

Hi!!

I’m a new member and a new gardener too.

I’m hoping someone could help me as I’m desperate to find out what is wrong with my new honeysuckle.

I bought it a few weeks ago, during the heavy rain spell we had so I left it outside until I had the chance to plant it.

It now has some awful disease with rapidly spreading brown spots on the leaves. This happened before I planted it so I know it’s not to do with my planting skills but I’m wondering if it had anything to do with the rain?

I have a south facing garden but keep the roots moist/cool as I read that’s what they like?

Any help would be hugely appreciated!

I’ve never had a garden of my own before so it’s all a huge learning curve for me!

Thanks in advance! :)

Hi @amy.ottolanguijtKnXoKyand welcome to the forum 😊
I suspect that’s the beginning of powdery mildew caused by the very dry weather we had in March and April. As long as you keep its roots cool and moist from now on it’ll outgrow that problem. Give it plenty of water ... you can’t really overwater a honeysuckle planted in the ground.
I really don’t think it’s anything disastrous ... enjoy your new garden 😊

I'm sure Dovefromabove is right, Amy and I expect the honeysuckle will recover.

  • Great - thank you!! I really hope you’re both right - it was so beautiful when I bought it. Fingers crossed it survives!!

Let us know how it gets on, and don’t hesitate to come back and ask more questions ... we’re all learning, just some of us have been learning for longer, that’s all 😃
