Hi all.

New to gardening and bought some of these in Homebase labelled as mixed colour carnations - i'm fairly certain they are not spinning

Any ideas?

They certainly look like dianthus to me - but then I am rubbish with flowers  :)

I think its a dianthus ...there are many different types, some of which are the carnations you would recognise as a “buttonhole” flower, and some which are more dainty.

Here’s a good link that looks at them all ....    https://www.gardenloversclub.com/ornamental/flowers/dianthus/types-of-carnations/?

That one's pink but they do come in red and in white. Maybe you were unlucky and picked up only pink ones.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
