Does anyone know what this is?

Hi all, hope you’re well on this sunny bank holiday?
I was wondering if anyone could shed some light onto what this is?
it’s popped up all over the garden, it’s difficult to pull up and get the roots out and seems resistant to weed killer.

I'm afraid it's Mare's Tail (or Horse Tail).  This is a prehistoric plant that was around with the dinosaurs and its roots go too deep for you to ever get out.  All you can do is dig down as far as you can and pull it out, then keep pulling it out as it pops up again.

There are stories, possibly apocryphal, that its roots have been found in deep coal mines.

Pull hard enough and you may find the other end wrapped around a kangaroo or duck billed platypus ...  ;)

  • I’d like to like your comments but I don’t! That’s so not what I wanted to hear but Thankyou everyone for your help. If you need me You’ll find me in the corner of my garden crying surrounded by horse tail.
In all seriousness apparently the whole close have it in their gardens too. Very frustrating but at least I know what it is now.
