Ideas for instant pots

I’m about to dismantle my tulip pots as they’ve now finished.  I’d like to fill the pots with something but I really don’t want bedding plants!  Can anyone suggest some long flowering perennials that would do well in pots for this year which I could transfer to the borders  in Autumn?

Dahlias would be my top choice.

They work well in pots and the timing is perfect to swap them with your tulips (you can grow both in black plastic pots that slide inside your decorative pots for storage out of the way when they are done).

The dahlia there is Blue Bayou. He also has Salvia Amistad, which also works really well in pots.

Wow, that looks gorgeous!  Are the purple spikes the salvia, or are those the shorter ones at the front?

Amistad is the shorter one in the front. I think the big purple spikes are some kind of lobelia

Most people don't transfer dahlias to pots in the autumn, they usually dig them up and store overwinter, not plant them in a border

@lobelia - I wondered if they might be delphiniums, but I'll look up lobelias.
