Planting out dahlias

Hi everyone

My dahlias are screaming at me to be planted although they’ve only got the one stem. They are quite leggy as they’re still in the shed but it’s still so windy down south! Is it safe to plant and stake now or should I wait?

Many thanks

I’m in NE England, my overwintered dahlias were potted up in March and have been out doors now for at least 4 weeks, I stated planting, with crossed fingers, 3 weeks ago. They’re growing well. Yours need more light I guess, I’d nip the tops out and stake them in the pot. Pop them outdoors against a sunny wall, bring them in at night if it seems very cold. They’ll be ready to plant out soon.
