Thanks, I just spotted it at the back when I was throwing weeds on the pile. Poor thing was upside down with all the roots on top. I have soaked it and planted it right side up but doesn’t look good. I wonder if someone threw it away by accident.

Should I bury it deep or leave the shoots, which are very squashed,poking out of the soil?
Agreed, it'll be fine. I basically did something (deliberately!) similar with mine i.e remove all the soil and a lot of the roots to try and extricate some ground elder which had become entangled, potted it back up and it's going great guns!

Thanks very much it’s in the ground well watered with a couple of other hostas that do well so hoping for a good result will post a picture once he is looking happier.
