Yes definitely, they may have been slug chewed as soon as they poked their shoots up.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

Mine was being eaten so I put a slug collar round the base and now it is happy and I think there's even a flower bud forming.

Slugs love them so much that they'll eat the stem well down into the soil, leaving just a hole!
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

I surrounded mine with a copper mesh strip and a circle of H. grit, so far, they look okay.
