Reworking the garden and some beds

I have a garden spot on the north side of the house, get sun only in summer months (see picture below taken at 5pm today) but is generally mostly shade. I would like to plant a dwarf evergreen like a honoki and create a Japanese style garden that will carry through on this side of the garden, but not sure what would work in this spot. I want to fill in with a large rock and possibly smaller stones around. 

I’m in Zone 6 and open to suggestions for mostly shade tolerant plants.

Unfortunately no, it’s an extensive patio form that it 30’ by 16’.  I just have this one pocket that open.

Can't find the plant you mention except a variety of magnolia that gets to 15m and more!

What country are you in? We did this,on top of paving in a corner of our patio, partly to break it up. Ours is huge 30 by 16 in front of the conservatory then an L shape going round by the kitchen. Unfortunately no picture, because we changed it this year. We put weed suppression membrane on the slabs,covered in white shingle,small grey edging stones to keep it in place, dry river with pebbles hubby made a red bridge,.we bought a Japanese lantern..Acer's and rhododendrons in pots.
