Bonsai tree

Hi, I'm new here. 
I have a bonsai tree that I have had just under a year, it was given as a gift. I love plants but I would not say that I am the biggest expert. Late last year I overwatered the bonsai tree which cause all of the leaves to fall off however I managed to bring it back and now it has some leaves, however it has not grown or got new leaves in the last couple of months. Is there anything that i can do or anuthing that i am doing wrong? 
ANy help would be appreciated :)

    We would need to know which species of tree it is (almost any tree can be grown as a miniature using Bonsai pruning and training techniques, but they all need slightly different care.)
    It would be worth checking some of the Bonsai specialist web forums, such as https://www.bonsaiempire.com/forum  - there are quite a few out there.
    If it's possible to generalize, then the main point is they are trees, so usually need to be grown outside and not indoors, at least for most of the year.

    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
