Centaurea nigra

Would anyone know if it is possible to divide clumps of Knapweed (Centaurea nigra)? I have a few square feet of it and wondered if it would be possible to divide it to replant elsewhere?

    I don't have Nigra but the Centaurea I do have can be split after flowering.

    I split my centaurea purple heart about a month or so ago, and they're all romping away now and flowering nicely. I get the impression they are very tough.

    Have I left it too late then? How deep are the roots out of interest?
