We have beautiful rhododendron that are very well established but this year they have had their buds devastated by frost damage, does anyone know if should I deadhead them please? The bushes are starting to look quite sad.

Yes, we have 3 five foot tall ones in pots. All damaged by the frost.

If you gently twist one of the dead buds (dark brown) it will be soft and dry and will easily come away from the plant.

If you leave them on, the plant will grow round them. But they look ugly until they drop off.

I had to remove about a hundred buds from just one plant. Soul destroying.
Apophthegm -  a big word for a small thought.
If you live in Derbyshire, as I do.
