Japanese plants

Hi, I'm looking to get two Japanese plants which would sit in pots to basically screen a pond pump. Seen lots of ideas regarding Japanese plants but a lot of them seem to spread and I want to contain so to speak their width. Any ideas on mini shrubs or plants. Never heard of a mini bamboo which would be great or are azaleas the best option?

Could actually go for a Moroccan theme as doing the back garden near the pond. Any palm tree species that don't grow too tall?

A very hardy (-12 to -15C) shrubby palm is Chamaerops humilis , the Mediterranean Fan Palm . Look for the blue foliaged form (var.cerifera) .
