How close do apple trees need to be to allow for pollination if they are not self fertile?

Someone told me that bees will fly up to a mile between trees - so they don't both need to be in your garden to get pollinated...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

It also depends on the type of apple you are growing.
