Hello All,

I have an issue with my calathea indoor plants.
There is some browning occurring on leaves.

Could somebody tell me why this is happening and how to prevent it. I am attaching a few photos

Thanks :)

Too  dry an atmosphere maybe ?  Often a problem with house plants in the winter.

As a PS, the compost looks pretty wet in your last photo - also perhaps over potted  for what appears to be a small plant?

    Hi Philippasmith2,
    Thanks for your reply.

I should add that the plant in 2nd and 3rd picture is kept in the bathroom. Why are brown edges occurring. It was more green before but the colour of leaves has slightly changed.

In relation to the plant in 1st and 4th picture, this was actually a much larger plant but completely died. It started regrowing itself a few months ago.

What would you suggest would be the best place for them. Also how much and how frequent should I water them.

    Thanks

You can cut around the yellow or brown edges making sure that you follow the leaf pattern..Also place it on a try of pebbles for extra moisture and water from the bottom it also loves to be sprayed with water basically it loves moisture once a week spray her with water and once a week water her and maybe every 2 weeks give her a feed ...I use Bio house plant feed and don't put her in direct sunlight but make sure that she stays in the same place room temperature around 16 degrees and they are very good at healing themselves however if the leaves are really bad cut it off from the bottom with a scissors to encourage new growth. Hope this helps

Water them when the soil feels dry when you stick your finger in a couple of inches. It it feels remotely moist, leave it for a couple of days. After a while you'll suss out how often you need to water it without checking every time. The pot should have drain holes, and the compost should be free draining.

Put a saucer at the bottom of each plant, then water them by adding water in the saucer, allow each plant to suck all the water from the bottom. I also put into the saucer the left over tea during tea time .. just every two weeks. I do a foliar spray once a week, or wet a paper towel and wipe the leaves lightly with that wet paper towel. My Calathea loves that routine.
