What is this iris?

It's on the cover of Hessayon's "The Flower Expert" but the book doesnt say what species and variety it is, but it's one if the loveliest irises I've seen and I'd love to get it for my garden - thanks in advance

Maybe a form of iris ensata?

Doesn't look like bearded or Ditch or sibirica.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Thanks - Oh yes it's definately beardless and not crested either - and I don't think its one of the bulbous groups but possibly in subsection 'limniris' - if it is a form of ensata I haven't been able to find a picture if anything like it yet but they are usually flatter than this

I found this similar photo from a US website, a Douglas iris

    Cambridgeshire, UK
  • Closest I can find is this but it's not possible to locate this variety for sale anywhere

Thanks that's the one :) Now I need to know the variety as the website doesnt say (or rather it says it's a Douglas iris but it's not the species so must be a hybrid)

There are.  I shall have to keep an eye out for seeds as I've only seen bearded and Dutch iris on sale here.

I've googled and found no seeds in the EU so may look for online plants but it seems they require moist soils and that will be a problem till I get OH to sort out our pond margins and I have a gunnera with first dibs on new moist space.
