Garden soil in pots

AaronBilAaronBil Posts: 100
I’ve relatively recently dug up some turf and soil amassing a pretty big pile. I’m not sure what to do with it but was thinking about mixing it 50/50 with multi purpose compost to pot up cannas and dahlias in the coming weeks.

My soil is clay but the pile I have is relatively loamy top soil.

Does anyone else use garden soil in pots?

bad idea?

I mix it sometimes with no problems. You'll probably get a few weeds from your soil but that's no big deal. I would sprinkle in  a bit of slow release fertiliser too.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

All my big pots have some soil from the garden in mixed with compost.  Well except for a couple that don't like acidic soil.  No problems so far!

It will be fine, better than MPC on it's own in big long term pots.

Thanks guys, I’ll certainly give it a go, I guess it should hold onto water a little better too.
