@Balgay.Hill thanks for the suggestion. Is it a thug?
Not at all. It will grow to about 2 feet diameter after a couple of years, and only a few inches tall. If planted at the edge of the wall, most of the growth will go down the wall. It's quite a woody plant.
Lots of great choices. For the front edge you could also have creeping thyme. Here’s how it was on mine last year — it draped down much further (about half the wall) but I don’t have a later photo of it.
I went for a lot of creeping phlox and some thyme. I've also got some ivy in there too. You can't really see them in this pic as they are obviously really small at the moment. It's coming along though. Two months on and I'm happy with it so far.
You could try hardy geranium St. Ola. It’s one of the only evergreen geraniums, it’s very hardy, spreads beautifully but is easy to pull up if you want to contain it. Mine is flowering all over the shop now and I’ve covered large areas of the front and back garden in it, just from one titchy original plant. Bees love it too, it doesn’t mind some shade and can tolerate drying out completely, as well as more moisture.
@Marlorena Thank you. I just need to make sure I have enough evergreen plants in there so it’s got some interest over the cold months. I’ve got a few shrubs in there which should make a difference once they’re a decent size. I’m thinking of putting ivy along the top wall so that it eventually covers it.
