Any ideas about this poinsettia

My poinsettia lost most of its leaves and I cut it down as recommended. 

This was about a month ago and it does not seem to be doing anything.  The stems are turning brown at the top and there is only one stem which has any growth 

Any idea

The compost bin!l gave up on them,I have really deep green fingers,and never managed to keep one

Even if you got it to survive it would then need a strict regimen of x hours of complete darkness and x hours of daylight daily for several weeks to get it to flower and colour up. Too much faff for me and it probably still wouldn't be as good as a cheap bought one!
