Where are they growing and what medium are they in?
More information about them would give us a few clues.

  • They are in large pots and have been growing on a sunny windowsill although for the last two days I've been putting them out in the garden during the day. It seems to be in the last two days that this problem has developed
  • I've been wondering about lack of light, powdery mildew, iron or some other nutrient being lacking?

It’s more likely something to do with temperature changes, sun or wind burn, or simply too cold.

I have found that very strong sunlight can be unkind to young, tender plants.

Possibly scorching from the sun ... it’s actually been quite strong the last few days and if they’ve been indoors, even on a bright windowsill they won’t have developed the tough cuticle that protects them from sun burn and the drying effects of the wind too.

If you can find a slightly shadier spot outside for them when the go out that would be good ... and keep an eye on the outdoor temperature ... I wouldn’t put them out if it’s below 15C.

  • OK this is really helpful thank you - I'll try putting them in a shadier spot and hope they perk up 🤞
