I bought a pack of daffodil bulbs from Lidl a couple of years ago. They’ve been coming up every year since, and are a mix of unusual flowers, many of them double petalled. Very good value. I’ve had great success with their shrubs too, including a magnolia soulangea for under £8. Unfortunately the deer has had a go at the magnolia, but it was doing very well until then.
    Lovely display of tulips!

I often buy Lidl daffodil and tulip bulbs. I too have some nice pots full of flower. I tend to use the old tomato compost with an extra handful of BFB mixed in.  The only disadvantage is the small range and they go very quickly.  The second year they go somewhere in the garden.

@celcius_kkw I reckon there were about 15 packs of bulbs (as some of them aren't flowering yet, and others have gone over that flowered earlier).  The £50 also includes 2 large bags of compost to fill the pots.  I think it represents good value for money - around 2 months of bloom and colour which we certainly enjoy looking at.

I've bought quite a few bulbs from Lidl, they are mostly very good but some of the other dry plants have not been a success. The canna was not a patch on the one pictured on the package, in fact not the same at all. The peony was the same, supposed to be a Sarah Berhardt, pink frothy double but turned out to be white, so gle species peony. Pretty in itself and healthy but not what I thought I was buying.
  • These are gorgeous! What will you do with the pots afterwards? Will you leave the bulbs in them and put them in a garage or something? Or do you empty it all out and re pot them again in the autumn?

@English_girl_in_France I’ve got d at one freesias and glads (also from Wilko) in plastic grow bags so I’ll empty out the tulips and replace . As they’re so cheap I usually throw away the tulip bulbs and replace each year. I may well offer them on my local plant swap.

@Sazz101 they are Kew botanical garden pots. I’ll see if I can find a link.

There was an interesting section on GW on Friday about replanting used tulip bulbs into grass - to make a kind of 'tulip meadow'. It looks gorg.
