New pond liner

I have had refurbished my old pond with a new liner and a waterfall I think its still leaks and need to check the liner for holes as well as the waterfall ,  but I now have tadpoles in it I don't want to kill them but need to find the leak . It could be coming from the waterfall either way I need to empty it,  can anyone help please , I do have another small pond I can remove them ... Sheila

Pond liners are expensive, if you think you have holes in it already I would have a word with the company you bought it from.  In saying that I assume you properly prepared the site ie with pond underlay?

If you have a waterfall I expect you pump the water up to the top?
If so can you switch off the pump and check without disturbing the pond area.
Waterfalls are difficult to get right and are more often the cause.
If you can leave the pump off for a few days you can see whether the water level in the pond changes but with no rain and a lot of sun it's surprising how fast and how much water can evaporate.

Yes we did but can't remember who we bought it from it was the beginning of the pandemic , a builder friend helped us with it made a good job of it but , I'm also thinking we also have a new uv water filter wonder if we are losing water as it splashes over in 2 places , cross really it was fine beforehand but a friend from Australia came to stay with us 2 years ago with her kids one who thought it would be funny to throw our dogs toy in and gode him to go in , the pond has been fine for 20+ since my late father-in-law years built it very annoying , so my mission throughout the pandemic is to put it right , thank you for your reply probably will have to empty it start again sadly ... sheila

  • Thank you for your reply K67 Yes thats what I think i and have been doing and it leaks a lot more with the pump on within 24hrs and have have notice a couple of places it splashes over without a pump on it does go down a bit within several days , but having never had the waterfall connected before I presume you lose a little through condensation..
