HELP! Have I murdered my Calathea?

I am in desperate need of help! I have no clue about plants and would be so grateful if anyone can point me in the right direction!

I have been gifted this calathea plant and i think it hates me, no matter what i do it seems to be in a sorry state.

I water it once a week however there are no drainage holes at the bottom of the pot it is in, is this right? Am i watering it too much? Why does the soil have mould on? Why are the leaves curling and dying? Its a beautiful plant and would love to be able to save it!

Thanks so much!

hi and welcome to the Forum.
It needs to be in a pot which can drain. Do that and I'm sure it'll perk up.

If it look very rootbound, move it into a slightly bigger pot with fresh compost. I suspect it's the drainage issue which is the problem.
