To lift or leave my rose and greengage trees.

I have a rambling rose that is doing very nicely in its current position (Veilchenblau) as well as 2 happy greengage trees.  However due to some renovations in my garden, I now need to raise the soil level where they are currently planted.  The position is fine, so can I simply bring in the new soil and they will find their level again, or do I have to dig them out and essentially replant them about 4 inches higher. I definitely do not want to put some kind of collar arrangement around them.  Thanks for any thoughts you may have.
