Between paving slabs

The front garden is paved with slabs. At the moment between them grow dandelions, aquilegia, nettles and other weeds I have to remove. Does anyone have any suggestions for a very low growingplant that would grow between the slabs and help supress the weeds?

We are in the North East, it's an East facing spot though open on the south side. It gets salt kicked up from gritting the road. There's soil reachable under the pavers for roots. I don't think it ever gets standing water. Fairly sheltered from the wind

Any suggestions?
