What to put under roses?
Hi I am a new gardener really but have been enjoying creating recently.
We have some roses in some beds, two rose bushes in each bed. The roses are not so large at the moment.
The beds are generally shaded although gets a little sun later in the day.
The problem is that other than the two rose bushes per bed the rest is just mud.
What could I put with the roses to cover the mud? Any suggestions?

Edit: I added a photo, but I don’t know how to turn the photo round the right way 🤦🏻♂️

Some tips here, note to avoid planting too close to the roses: https://www.gardenia.net/guide/underplanting-roses

but I see the idea of wood chip would also be much more attractive than mud too.
In the other bed (not pictured but is very similar) it has a golden wedding (arokris) and something else that has a label on it that says Harisma, is that a rose variety?
