Grow lights for seeds

Hi all

My windowsills are full already, and I’ve still got a lot more in schedule for next month!

Does anyone have any recommendations for some grow lights for growing plants from seed? There’s shed loads on Amazon’s but I can’t distinguish between them. Happy to pay around £25-£35.

I have been using something similar to this, and the seedlings have grown really fast and stocky. I do use it as supplemental light on a windowsill, though - but I suspect it would be fine if you used it further away from the windowsill.

I recently also got one of these, and have experimented with using it as the only source of light for one of my seedling. After 4 days the seedling is showing no sign of reaching for light so I am considering setting up a little growing area in the cellar, out of the way!

I bought these for my seed trays as my window sill is North-facing and seedlings would get very leggy otherwise. I'm very happy with them.

    Hi!

For how long do you run your LED lights for, on one Q & A page the seller says only run for 6 hours at a time!

I was thinking about 24 hours.

    Thanks in advance!

I turn my growlights on in the afternoon and leave them until I go to bed which is usually about 11 pm.

Plants need a period of darkness for the photosynthesis cycle to complete, so I wouldn't recommend 24h of light.  I remember reading something about minimum darkness periods for artificially grown tomatoes on the web, so might be worth a google?
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
