daphne-bholua-advice-needed
I have a beautiful daphne bholua and have tried unsuccesfully to propagate it. I tried both cuttings and potting up suckers and neither worked. Now its throwing off suckers again and I'd like to have another go, can anyone advise me? The scent is lovely in early spring and cheers me up at a cold time of year!

It's a wonderful plant. I lost mine but some friends have a large one right where you enter their garden.
Not a lot of help but I can see why you want to propagate
In the sticks near Peterborough
Mine is planted near my front door with some spring bulbs nearby. I really love it when passing neighbours mention the scent and ask what it is, I'd like to be able to pass on plants thus the need to propagate. i'm new to this site but have already gone out and pruned my Red Robin, between the showers and listening to Gardeners Question Time.
Cuttings are very difficult without heat. The suckers ought to grow on. You do need to get them with a reasonable amount of fibrous roots though, rather than just a stem. Dig down to the roots where the sucker is and expose a length of the main root, say abour 2 inches above and below the sucker. Sever the sucker with some of the main root. It has worked for me. Keep the sucker shaded and well watered until it begins to grow for itself.
They don't like being transplanted. Mine had babies growing from seed, and every time I tried digging them up and potting they died . The original plant did not survive 15 degree frost. I have a new seedling. I may need to move the path.
Many thanks for the advice, I will try both the cuttings and the suckers and keep my fingers crossed.
