Plant Id...is this a weed ?

Hi there
i normally pull this out every year when i see it growing, but thought i’d let it grow this year to get a proper look what it is/what it does.
any ideas please? Its the thing in the middle of the geraniums. Thanks

  • Lord & Ladies I think (Arum maculatum) It has red berries in the autumn. All parts are poisonous so handle with care. I have a lot in the garden... long root/rhizome which I dig out.

    Lords-and-ladies (Arum maculatum). Invasive and difficult to control.

    thanks for the info everyone. Not a rare and exotic species then 😀
    i shall get digging this morning and put my gloves on in case.
    ...or maybe burn or chemical it to death.

    You need to dig very deep; the white root ends in nodule which you must remove to get rid of completely. There is a variegated version with marbled leaves which is much more attractive.

    well the deed is done. The roots were very deep indeed. I bought athing from qvc called root slayer which was v good...my old bones cant do much now
