Hydrangea Budding

Hi everyone. I have a question on that Hydrangea... as you can see it has plenty of strong main branches. As that’s the case at this point would you nip out the buds growing in spots where whatever comes of them will probably be in a very crowded spot/ growing in a direction I don’t want it to go in?

I’d leave it for this year, you’ll have a good show of flowers there,
after that, I would get it into the ground if you can, they’re hungry and thirsty plants, they like space to spread their roots.

  • Thank you. Ive got some hard landscaping to do before I can really do that and since construction is stopped here in Ireland I have to wait! It’s been in pots for 4 years now (this is the third year in this pot) and to be honest my plan is to keep it there for a while... it was the healthiest plant in my garden last year!

Some varieties get quite high and wide. It may be a good idea to start monitoring the roots to see if it is getting root bound and needs a bigger pot. Enjoy the blooms!
